As part of my User Experience Design Immersive I was tasked with redesigning and coding a new landing page for 3Advance, an app development agency, seeking to increase client engagement.
PROJECT SCOPE
CLIENT: 3Advance is a top-ranked, Washington, DC-based development team that works with startups, non-profits, and other businesses to turn great ideas into engaging mobile and desktop apps.
OBJECTIVE: 3Advance was seeking to improve their SEO ranking and conversion rate of potential clients, starting immediately with their landing page.
TIMELINE: 2 weeks
PROJECT ROLES: Research, Competitive Analysis, and UI / Visual Design
RESEARCH
I began with a competitive analysis of local Washington, DC-based development companies. Most of 3Advance’s competitors had similar sites but conveyed their services and development process in a clear and concise manner. I also noted that many of these companies have teams of 50–100 employees versus 3Advance which has a team of 10, most of which are developers.
Based on my competitive analysis and 3Advances differentiators, the design needed to highlight three areas: services, portfolio, and the 3Advance team.
SAY IT, SHOW IT
The current header for 3Advance’s site was not conveying their expertise. This is vital to get people engaged immediately and encourage them to explore the site further. I added a bold headline that spoke to their passion for startup entrepreneurs, a carousel linked to project case studies, a call to action for the contact form, services section, and social media links which had been buried in the footer of their current website.

PORTFOLIO
3Advance has a great portfolio of mobile, web, and data applications for startups and recognizable organizations. I wanted to showcase their work in a unique and bold way. During my research I looked at architecture firms and design agencies, businesses that rely heavily on conveying their capabilities through portfolios and case studies. I used bold text, colorful blocking, and images to drawn attention to case studies that represented a cross-section of their expertise, inviting the user to click through to explore further.

3ADAVANCE TEAM
3Advance is a small business and their personal approach to clients is a huge selling point. They are a nimble team that guides clients through the entire development process. Some of 3Advance's local competitors include a lengthy descriptions of their design process on their websites so choose to add a clear and concise “Our Process” section with a call to action for the contact form. I also added a team section to the landing page with email and LinkedIn profile links for the founder and partner to make them accessible to potential clients.

VISUAL DESIGN
I utilized the color palette from 3Advance’s logo for the branding, pulling the bright orange and gold into headers and visual components for punch. Arrowhead-shaped elements echoing their logo are seen throughout the design to convey a feeling of forward momentum. This was a fun and creative project and I think the curated content and design deliver the right amount of visual interest to keep the user engaged and provides multiple opportunities to contact the 3Advance team.
